Welcome to the forum.

The 555 has so many uses, and it is a fantastic component. Great for learning electronics!

Are you building any circuits habib?

I would like to build an AC lamp PWM controller with a 555 and a triac. I don't really understand the 555, maybe I haven't put in enough effort. I'm really busy with my studies, and sometimes my studies interfere with my passion. Anyway, my uncle is an engineer and he told me the duty cycle of the 555 equals to the size of the capacitor times the resistance of the resistor, so all I need is a potentiometer right?

Hey all I have an idea for a circuit. Can I use a 555 timer to achieve this function:
When I turn a switch on, a light or something turns on for a bit then turns off.
Thanks all!

Yes, this is easy with a 555. See the page operating modes, in particular the Monostable mode. This allows a switch to be added to pin 2 which gives a single pulse that could easily power a light.
