Think I got it...

Got it to work as shown with the two 555's and also with the 556... Inserted a 1k pot between the second capacitor and the speaker for volume control... Worked great...

Is it possible to substitute a 556 chip for the two 555's?

Hi George, Can you post a pic of the plug in DC power supply you are using? I would greatly appreciate it...

Correct... You should be able to use the 1/8th chuck... Make sure it comes with a set screw (or two)... When you get it - test fit it... Mark the shaft where the set screw(s) fit and very carefully score the area - this will help the set screw seat properly... BTW that setup above looks great...

I would have to do the math, but you are right - it is possible... :)

If you are going to make a mini drill press out of this I would suggest using the 18 volt power supply and rigging yourself a potentiometer to make it variable speed... yes the part you are talking about is a "chuck" and you might be able to find one at Micro-Mark (www.micromark.com) or Harbor...
