Right ok, I've not got much to play with but I tried a 2.7k R in lieu of the 11k R and it made it a higher pitch, actually reminded me of Death in "Gauntlet", just to allude my age :rolleyes:. So that's the wrong way, but this is a fun game anyhow. :)

OK, great news: I got something!!! :D Quite right about the diode. Am using a 1mF (or 1uF mi) capacitor, and 2700Ohm resistor from pin 2 of 555-1, no way Justin could have read that. Also, not bypassing 2700 resistor either, it doesn't make sense that. Here's the vid: ok it's not the DAT VOICE...

Well, the drawing of the schem in that vid appears to be copied direct from this diagram, below, anyway, (I found larger version) which uses a 1mF (microFarad) capacitor. Alas, already have I tried that :(

Good point! Doh! No, polyester film caps aren't, hmm neither are ceramic disc, (checking) neither are metalised polyester film, tantalum bead ARE (mostly), same as almost all electrolytic . Maplin didn't have any other 1nF capacitors anyway, I'll source one and get back here. Thanks Justin. Ok...

Thanks George! I tried Eagle which I'm sure is brilliant but I'm not of the comprehension to get my head around it for now. Then I tried an online simulator which had a 10 minute expiry, seemed good but I wasn't enticed to play further. This falstad one seems great! I've just had a go before bed...
